Where Flowers Come From
Certainly, the world has changed. For years flowers sold in Auburn came from our own or nearby greenhouse companies in Albany, Rochester, Elmira, and Syracuse. Today they come from “somewhere in the world.”
The bulk of our ordinary flowers come from Colombia, South America, and our roses from Ecuador. California, Israeli and Dutch flowers are always available from our wholesalers. And nearly every flower is available somewhere throughout the world. But it is wise to remember, though, the further away you get from the natural flowering date, the higher the price will be.
I will try hard to meet your needs. A few years ago, a bride wanted pink Peonies in April. Their season in Central New York is mid-May through late June. A wholesaler in Miami found them for me, in Israel. They went from Israel to the Flower Auction in Amsterdam in the Netherlands from which they were shipped to Miami and then to Auburn. They were beautiful but costly.
